Shipping to Peru from Canada

Peru represents a growing opportunity for Canadian exporters. Bilateral environmental and labour cooperation and modern trade frameworks make Peru an attractive partner. The Canada–Peru Free Trade Agreement (CPFTA) and CPTPP reduce or eliminate tariffs on many goods, helping Canadian shippers reach customers faster and more competitively.

Best Shipping Options to Peru from Canada

What’s the cheapest way to ship to Peru?

For small personal parcels, Canada Post (surface) is usually the lowest-cost option.

How much does it cost to send a package to Peru?

Cost depends on chargeable weight (the greater of actual vs. volumetric) and service level. Use the calculator below for 5–30 kg estimates. Examples:

  • Small/light parcel: Canada Post surface can be ~CA$30 (non-urgent).
  • 10 lb (~4.5 kg) courier parcel: around ~CA$250 depending on service.
  • Request a tailored quote for time-definite or heavier shipments.

Tip: Before you ship, obtain the consignee’s tax ID: DNI (individual), RUC (company), or passport/foreign ID.

Chargeable weight is the greater of actual and volumetric. Volumetric (kg) = L × W × H (cm) ÷ 5000.

Carrier Choices & Service Notes

Canada Post → Peru (SERPOST)

Best for individuals and small parcels. Services include Small Packet (≤2 kg), International Parcel (surface/air), and Priority Worldwide (via FedEx).

FedEx / UPS / DHL from Canada to Peru

Reliable door-to-door courier services with priority and economy air. Ideal for commercial parcels and time-sensitive shipments.

Air vs. Ocean Freight

  • Air freight: fastest; useful for urgent or higher-value goods.
  • Ocean freight: cost-effective for bulk shipments. LCL consolidations add handling time; FCL is faster and more predictable.

Peru Customs: IDs, Duty & VAT

  • Tax ID required: DNI (individual), RUC (company), or passport/foreign ID.
  • Most imports are subject to an effective VAT of ~18% (Value Added & municipal taxes).
  • Duty rates depend on HS code and origin (MFN vs. preferential under CPFTA/CPTPP).
  • Documentation: commercial invoice, air waybill / bill of lading, packing list, insurance; SUNAT’s DAM as applicable.

Low-value threshold: About USD $200 (≈ CA$250) for tax/duty relief on certain shipments (rules vary; verify current limits).

Canadian Export Declaration

Exports from Canada valued at CA$2,000+ (or otherwise controlled) typically require a CERS export declaration (formerly B13A).

Incoterms & Who Pays Import Fees

Parcel shipments often use DDP/DDU-style options. With DDP, the shipper pays duty/taxes on behalf of the consignee; with DDU, the consignee pays on arrival. See: Incoterms explained.

CPTPP / Canada–Peru FTA: Preferential Duty Relief

Canada and Peru have both a bilateral FTA (CPFTA) and CPTPP. Where rules of origin are met, many goods qualify for preferential duty rates (often 0%). Proof of origin can appear on the commercial invoice (no prescribed format) provided all data elements are present:

  1. Certifier (Importer/Exporter/Producer)
  2. Names/addresses/contact information
  3. Goods description & HS code
  4. Origin criterion
  5. Blanket period (if used)
  6. Signature & date

Remember: Duty-free ≠ tax-free. VAT generally still applies in Peru. More: CPTPP benefits and certificate of origin basics.

Reverse Lane: Shipping to Canada from Peru

Peru-origin goods may qualify for Canadian CPTPP preferences. Imports < CA$3,300 often do not require proof of origin at the time of import, but importers must maintain records (e.g., invoice, B3). See Canada import regulations and common fees.
