The Complete 2026 Guide to Shipping from Canada to Poland and the EU

Written by Timothy Byrnes | July 19, 2018

Canada and Poland share a strong economic relationship, bolstered by deep personal ties and a substantial Polish-Canadian community. Trade from Canada to Poland is increasing steadily, driven by the European-Canadian free trade agreement (CETA). To remain competitive, businesses need low-cost, reliable shipping solutions to Poland from Canada.

Poland serves as Canada's largest market in Central and Eastern Europe, with annual bilateral trade exceeding CAD 2 billion. Whether you are shipping personal gifts or commercial freight, understanding your carrier options and European Union customs rules is essential.

Carrier Options for Shipping Packages to Poland

Finding the cheapest way to ship a package to Poland depends entirely on the weight, dimensions, and urgency of your goods.

Canada Post: Best for Small Personal Parcels

Canada Post parcel and packet surface options are usually the cheapest way to send a small, personal package to Poland. Parcels import for final delivery via Poczta Polska.

  • Small Packet International: Available in Surface, Air, and Tracked options for items under 2 kg.
  • Xpresspost International: Faster delivery, typically within two weeks.

FedEx, UPS, and DHL: Best for Urgent Commercial Shipping

FedEx, UPS, and DHL offer dependable international express delivery from Canada to Poland. The lowest courier pricing is often achieved via partner resellers. Large-volume shippers may earn direct discounts, but most small to medium businesses benefit from reseller rates combined with expert logistics guidance.

Freight Shipping from Canada to Poland

For heavy boxes, pallets, or bulk commercial orders, standard parcel couriers become too expensive. Freight forwarding is required.

Ocean Freight

Ocean freight is the most economical choice for large commercial orders. Transit time averages one to two months. Goods typically depart from Canadian ports like Montreal or Halifax and arrive at Polish ports such as Gdańsk or Szczecin, with onward delivery by truck or rail.

  • LCL (Less-than-Container Load): Ideal for a few pallets. Your cargo shares container space with other shipments.
  • FCL (Full Container Load): The fastest ocean option using a dedicated 20-foot or 40-foot container.

Air Freight

Door-to-door economy air can be the most cost-effective option for shipments up to 100 kg when you factor out ocean minimums and destination fees. Regular uplift is available from Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.

Sample Courier Prices and Dimensional Weight

Cost depends primarily on dimensions and weight. To lower your shipping costs, right-size your packaging to reduce dimensional weight.

Chargeable Weight (kg) Sample Price (CAD)
5.0 kg $165
10.0 kg $170 - $235
15.0 kg $300

Poland Customs: Duties, VAT, and Business Identifiers

Poland assesses duty and VAT on the CIF value (Cost plus Insurance plus Freight). The general VAT rate in Poland is 23 percent.

  • EORI Number: EU businesses must have an Economic Operators Registration and Identification (EORI) number to lodge customs entries. Always include the consignee’s EORI on your shipping paperwork.
  • NIP and KRS: Polish businesses also utilize a Numer Identyfikacji Podatkowej (NIP) for tax purposes and a Krajowy Rejestr Sądowy (KRS) for corporate registration.

CETA Duty-Free Import for Canadian Goods

The Canada-EU Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) allows duty-free import of qualifying Canada-origin goods into Poland. However, simply purchasing and shipping a product from Canada does not automatically grant it "Canadian origin."

To qualify, a product must undergo sufficient production or transformation within Canada to meet the Rules of Origin. If your goods qualify, you must include a specific origin declaration on your commercial invoice to claim the duty-free preference.

Export Declarations from Canada

For commercial shipments from Canada to Poland valued above CAD 2,000, or for restricted goods, a Canadian Export Declaration via the CERS portal is mandatory before the shipment can leave the country.

2026 EU Customs for Parcel Imports to Polish Consumers

While this guide focuses heavily on the Polish market, e-commerce sellers shipping across the European Union are subject to a minimum 3 Euro duty for parcel imports. The 3 Euro duty will be multiplied by each distinct item category (based on tariff sub-headings) contained within the parcel.

Example Calculation for an Italian Consumer Order:

  • The Order: 1 pair of leather shoes, 1 cotton shirts, 1 polyester shirt. €90 value
  • The Assessment: Leather shoes and cotton shirts have completely different tariff sub-headings.  Cotton and polyester have different sub-headings. This means there are three distinct categories inside the shipping box.
  • The Cost: 3 categories x 3 Euros = 9 Euros total customs duty.

Furthermore, an additional 2 Euro handling fee will applies (November 2026)
